County Clerk Announces Election Polling Changes
By Troy Treasure
Bethel and Hunnewell voters will have different polling venues for the June 2 election due to social-distancing concerns.
The new sites are just a matter of yards away from the regular locations. Shelby County Clerk Stephanie Bender indicated there should be little inconvenience.
“We are moving Hunnewell’s polling place to S&M Contractors. The City Hall where they’ve been having it is extremely small and with them in the process of building a new one, there is no hot water there,” Bender said. “That way, they will have hot water and a little more space to spread out.”
In Bethel, voting will take place at the community center adjacent to the village office. Bender’s office will utilize that facility’s basketball court.
Bender indicated her office, in accordance with the Missouri Secretary of State, is coordinating procedures to make in-person voting safe.
A story on those plans and a sample ballot will appear in next week’s edition of the Shelby County Herald.
