Their family moved to Cocoa Beach, FL when Mary was a young girl and they later moved to Daytona Beach, FL where Mary graduated from high school. Mary met John Thomas Carmichael who was a pilot with the United States Navy and stationed in Florida during World War II. They were married in 1944. After the war, they settled in John’s home of Kansas City, MO. They had six children: Connie, John, Fred, Carol, Jill, and Jim; and Mary kept busy as a homemaker and mother.
