By Troy Treasure

A lightning strike is the suspected cause of a fire Wednesday, July 15 at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Clarence.

Clarence Fire Department Chief Chris Wilson said firefighters responded at approximately 5:30 a.m.

“A witness called it in,” Wilson said. “We had smoke coming out of the north side of the roof. We had it contained to a small section in about 30 minutes.”

The roof and an upstairs apartment received fire and smoke damage. The downstairs portion of the facility received water damage.

Clarence requested and received mutual aid from the Shelbina Fire Protection District and Macon Fire Department.
