Max “Speedy” G. Conrad

Max G. “Speedy” Conrad, 91, of Shelbyville, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra.

Speedy was born on September 5, 1928, in Macon, the son of George Benjamin and Frances Wright Conrad.  He was united in marriage to Nyla Deane Rathjen on April 29, 1950, at the Clarence Christian Church in Clarence. She preceded him in death on November 5, 2015.

He is survived by his one son, Ben Conrad and wife, Stacey, of Palmyra, one grandson, Josh Conrad and wife, Alycia, of Gravois Mills; and one granddaughter, Rachel Conrad of Columbia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nyla; two children, Eddie and Cindy Conrad; and one brother Jerry Conrad.

Speedy was a member of the Shelbina Christian Church and NEMO Shriners.  He enjoyed golfing, duck hunting, watching rodeos and being politically active in the community.  He was an avid firearm collector and cat lover, but most of all enjoyed being with his grandkids.

Private graveside service was held for the family at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2020, at the Maplewood Cemetery in Clarence.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shiloh Christian Children’s Ranch of Shelbina.
