Due to film distribution ramifications related to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hawkins Theater in Shelbina has temporarily halted its showings on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
“The studios will not release new movies if the larger movie-chain movies do not open or close again,” Theater Co-President Dr. Jim Foster said.
“There currently are about 1,000 open nationwide and more are closing due to increased COVID cases,” Foster continued. “Movies were delayed from June release to early August and now we are learning they will potentially not open. We aren’t sure as to when.”
Foster indicated he receives a weekly newsletter from the theater’s booking agent.
“Attendance numbers are very poor currently nationwide as theaters have been showing older movies,” he said.
