North Shelby lost its first home game to the Westran Hornets on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 72-47.
Westran took a 4-0 lead within a minute into the game.
“The boys never quit and played hard. We just couldn’t throw it in the ocean if we were standing on the shore it seemed like,” said North Shelby coach Landon Daniel.
The Raiders took their first and only lead of the game after juniors Carson Orr and Kyle Smith scored buckets and NS led 7-5.
“Westran boys are a solid team. They can pound it in the inside with their two bigs and their guards.
“They are well- coached, too, so it was a tough matchup for us, but I thought we hung with them all night until the end,” continued Daniel.
Westran tallied 16 points to take a 32-20 lead at the half.
The Hornets lead continued to soar as they scored 40 points in the second half.
Smith ended the night with 11 points. He also had eight rebounds.
“I thought Kyle played a heck of a game for being out-sized by a mile. He rebounded well and finished at the rim,” added Daniel.
