J. Norman East passed away March 29 at George Ade Memorial Health Care Center in Kentland, Ind., where his wife Audrey East continues to reside.
He was born Oct. 11, 1933 in Lakenan to Paul and Pearl (Wildasin) East, who predeceased him.
Norman was raised in Kentland and graduated from Kentland High School, then from Purdue University with a degree in agriculture economics. He married Audrey Mooy March 1, 1959.
He will be greatly missed by his three children, Linda and husband B.J. Herbison of Bolton, Mass., Wayne and wife Lori of Carthage, and David and wife Liz Gehr of Creve Couer; his four grandsons, Robert, Joshua and wife Rachael and Ken Herbison and Matthew East; his two great- grandchildren Eric and Rue, and by his nieces and nephews.
His career in agriculture included being an extension agent, selling seed corn for Edward J. Funk & Sons, being a farm manager for Farmcraft, then for the First Trust and Savings Bank of Watseka and farming his own farm near Iroquois, Ill. He was passionate about caring for his land and farming in a way that preserved the environment. Norman was an active member of the Covenant Federated Christian Church in Kentland.
Norman was predeceased by his brother Robert East and sister Marjorie East Simmons.

A memorial service is being planned for this summer.
