Maurice Handley Shuck

Maurice Shuck,  79, of Hunnewell,  passed away September 7, 2021 at Salt River Community Care in Shelbina.

Maurice was born December 28, 1941 in Hannibal, to Lewis Handley and Malvina Katherine (Hoover) Shuck.  Maurice was united in marriage to Rose V. Paul on February 3, 1962 in Clarence. She survives.

Maurice graduated from Monroe City High School. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, a past Alderman for the city of Shelbyville and a past North Shelby School Board member. Maurice was a meat cutter for 41 years and a County Commissioner for 16 years. He enjoyed farming and raising Black Angus cattle. Maurice was an avid bird hunter in his early years and liked to train his bird dogs. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Maurice is survived by his wife; two sons, Mark A. Shuck (Michelle) of Hunnewell and Michael D. Shuck (Cindy) of Monroe City, nine grandchildren, Dereck Shuck (Lauren), Amy Heaston (Alan), Helana Ross (Donnie), Kimberly Shuck, Skylar Shuck, Bethany Shuck (David Day), Taylor Shuck, James Cargill and Michael Barbieri; 21 great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; three siblings, Gary Shuck (Leslie) of Hunnewell, Dwight Shuck (Cele) of Hunnewell and Sue Mudd (Dan) of Monroe City, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Matthew Shuck, one great grandson, Jessie Hutchinson; and one sister-in-law, Virginia Hill.

A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, September 10 at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina. A rosary service will be held Friday evening starting at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 10 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shelbina. Burial will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Monroe City, immediately following the service.

Memorials may be made to the Holy Rosary School or Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
