The Heartland Community is hosting a Homecoming to celebrate more than 26 years of seeing people find hope for their lives. The vision started with businessman and founder Charles Sharpe. Driving across his Missouri farmland one day, he thought, “This would be a good place for kids.” He was right. Charlie was thinking of a summer camp, but the vision grew into a full community with recovery programs for men and women, a school and Bible college, all built around a local church.
National Recovery Month coincides with our Homecoming, so we look forward to re-connecting with friends and alumni as well as raising awareness about addiction. We have been blessed by many people throughout the years who came to receive help, but also those who felt called to help others as they found hope and healing.
Admission is free for this family-friendly event:
8 a.m.- 1 p.m.: Farmers & Craftsmen Fair
10 a.m.:Rally Walk for Recovery
11 a.m. – 3 p.m: Inflatable games, corn hole and other games for kids and families
11 a.m. – end of the day: Bobby Ray’s BBQ Food Truck, plus ice cream, lemon slushes, kettle corn and more for sale.
3:30 p.m.: Homecoming program (Heartland Community Church Sanctuary) with keynote speaker Alan Robertson
Keynote speaker for the Saturday afternoon program is “Son of the Duck Commander” Alan Robertson. Alan is the oldest son of the Phil Robertson and his wife, Miss Kay. He appeared on the family’s hit television show, Duck Dynasty on A&E, with the rest of the family where Al was known as the beardless brother. Al pastored for 22+ years at the White’s Ferry Road Church in West Monroe, La. before returning to the family business, Duck Commander, to appear on the TV show and speak around the country.
Al and his wife Lisa have written and co-written devotional books, books about the Robertson family and also their own story, A New Season. Al also started a production company with his cousin, Zach Dasher that produces three shows on BlazeTV.com, including Phil’s show, In the Woods With Phil. He is also the host of Phil’s brand new Podcast, Unashamed with Phil Robertson, also starring his brother Jase.
Alan and Lisa have been married for 35 years, have two married daughters, four granddaughters and two grandsons. Their passion is spending time with their family, traveling together, writing books, doing marriage retreats and working hard to help strengthen and save marriages by sharing what God has done in their own marriage through brokenness, renewal, hope and forgiveness.
