Raiders Defeat Eagles in Sectionals

North Shelby defeated Northwest (Mendon, MO) in the Class 1 Sectionals held at Salisbury High School on Tuesday, March 1, 2022.
The Eagles held the lead the first quarter, but the Raiders claimed the lead the rest of the game, earning a 79-47 victory.
North Shelby (20-6) was led by JD Rich with 19 points. Carson Orr and Brendyn McDaniel each scored 15 and Landon Bender had 12.
Rich was good for the bucket just 18 seconds into the game and sent to the free throw line. He was not successful at the FT line.
Trey Stockwell got NW on the board. Stockwell gave the Eagles a two-point lead nearly a minute later. McDaniel put in two for NS and Olin Jacobs later went 2-for-2 from the line. The Eagles led 6-4.
Rich splashed in a 3-pointer with four minutes on the clock. A steal by Robert Uhlmeyer, which ended with him scoring, extended the Raiders lead, 9-6. Twenty seconds later, North Shelby’s Noah Greenwell claimed a bucket which resulted in an Eagles timeout.
Coming off the timeout, Jacobs scored four points. Orr scored the last two points for NS. Jacobs and Gannon Johnson each scored, and NW took a 14-13 lead at the end of the quarter.
Just seven seconds into the second period, Rich earned NS a one-point lead. Landon Winn scored two which allowed the Eagles to have the one-point advantage. Bender and Orr each went 1-for-2 from the FT line, giving NS back the lead. Bender scored again and McDaniel hit a shot from beyond the arch. North Shelby held a 22-16 lead. Uhlmeyer scored the next four points for the Raiders. With 2:40 on the clock, NS held a 26-18 lead.
North Shelby’s Casey Shockley went 2-for-2 from the FT line. McDaniel scored two 3-pointers within 38 seconds extending the Raiders lead 34-18. Northwest scored one more time in the first half. Rich tallied the last six points NS had, which were both 3-pointers. Ending the first half, the Raiders had a 40-20 advantage.
In the third quarter, both teams scored 13 points. Bender claimed five while McDaniel and Orr each had four.
The Raiders earned 26 points in the final period and held the Eagles to 14.
North Shelby is scheduled to take on Wellsville in the Class 1 Boys Quarterfinals on Saturday, March 5, at Truman State University.
