Lewis Robuck Thompson, a prominent farmer and lifelong resident of Shelby and Macon counties, Missouri, passed away on June 9, 2022. He was born June 21, 1940, the son of Howard and Helen Robuck Thompson. He was 81 years old at the time of his passing.
Lewis attended Clarence School and met his future wife Willie Sam Jones in the 8th grade. He was the top graduate of the school of hard knocks. After they graduated in May of 1958, he married his high school sweetheart at Cherry Box Christian Church on July 27, 1958. This year they would have celebrated 64 years of marriage together.
Lewis was well known as a hard-working farmer and loved to attend sales at Lolli’s Sale Barn. Along with his wife Willie, he raised corn, soybeans, milo, hay, wheat, cattle, and hogs. Farming in the 80’s was tough, but through determination, he continued the family farm that is now 170 years old. He traveled to Chicago and Washington DC to protest unfair commodity prices.
Lewis was involved in many community efforts including; Clarence Jaycee’s, Clarence Masonic Lodge, Federal Land Bank board, FSA board, Clarence Methodist Church board and Trustees board, NFO and Clarence Nursing Home board. He was an original member of the Rural Water board which brought clean, rural water to Shelby County. He went house to house to sign up neighbors.
Lewis was an avid reader who read encyclopedias for fun. He read all the cowboy books in the Clarence, Macon, and Moberly libraries. Always in a hurry, Lewis got a lot of things done. He was a daily visitor of the “Anabel Coffee Club.” He was blessed with photographic memory and could recall the weather from 20 years ago. He never met a stranger and made friends wherever he went. Lewis will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Lewis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He cherished Sunday family dinners every week. He is survived by his beloved wife, Willie Sam (Jones) Thompson of Anabel, son, Scott and wife, Kim Thompson of Clarence, daughter, Jeanna and husband, Kenny Rutter of Shelbina, and daughter, Shana and husband, Brian Threlkeld of Shelbina. Grandchildren are Jordan and Paige Thompson, Garrett Thompson, Lucy and Hisham Bin Saif, Maggie and Jordan Watson, Brett Threlkeld and girlfriend Haylee Roberts, Erin Threlkeld and Colt Threlkeld. Great grandchildren are Finley Lu Thompson, Laith Bin Saif, Brock Watson and Hadley Jo Watson.
Other surviving family includes his sister, Charlotte Thompson Pflum, brother-in-law, Lyle and Ann Tracy, sister-in-law, Georgia Jones, sister-in-law, Kim and John Mitchell and brother-in-law, David and Sharon Jones and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Warren Pflum, sister-in-law JoAnn Tracy, brother-in-law, Dehner Jones, niece, Pamela Tracy Goers, two aunts, Katherine Robuck Pickett and Pauline Robuck Miller, and one uncle, Harry Thompson.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, at the United Methodist Church in Clarence, followed by the burial at Maplewood Cemetery in Clarence.
Visitation was held Monday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Methodist Church or Maplewood Cemetery both of Clarence.
