A fire destroyed a Shelbyville home on Saturday, December 10, 2022.
According to Shelby Community Fire Chief Mike Geisendorfer, at approximately 5:30 p.m. firefighters responded to 805 East Main Street. The home was formerly the Mt. Hope Lutheran Church.
Geisendorfer stated, flames were visible from the north windows of the structure when they arrived.
Firefighters were able to rescue a bearded dragon, but unfortunately not a cat.
Chief Geisendorfer said there was water and smoke damage to the entire structure.
Firefighters were on scene until approximately 8:30 p.m.
“The preliminary investigation leads us to believe the cause was electrical,” said Geisendorfer.
The home is owned by Scott Rose.
Other agencies assisting were Shelbina Fire Protection District, Salt River Ambulance and Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
