Carolyn Virginia Jones

Carolyn Virginia Jones, 87, of Shelbyville, Mo., passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Salt River Community Care in Shelbina, Mo.

Carolyn was born on August 18, 1935, in Shelbyville, the daughter of Earl Edward and Florence Vivian (Peters) Forman. She was married to Ursa Parsons and to this union two children were born, Lindell and Diane. She later married Jay W. Jones. He preceded her in death.

Carolyn is survived by her children, Lindell Parsons (Sherrie) of Shelbyville, and Diane Smoot (Larry) of Bethel, Mo.; six grandchildren, Jason Smoot (Noelle), Justin Smoot (Leah), Chris Parsons (Sarah), Jonathan Parsons (Michelle), Camil McCoy (Ryan) and Chase Parsons (Skylar); 10 great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Reigan, Taytum, Finley, Talon, Tripp, Sofia, Wesley, Selah and Rilynn; and one great-great grandchild, Rory.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Earlene Parker; and grandson, Brian Parsons.

Carolyn was a member of the Bethel Methodist Church, the Eastern Star, and the Shelbyville Woman’s Club. She owned and operated Parsons Hardware for several years and later worked for AmeriCorps. Carolyn enjoyed traveling and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Bethel Methodist Church. Visitation will be held at the Methodist church in Bethel from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday. Burial will be held at Shelby Memorial Cemetery in Shelbyville.
