The North Shelby Board of Education met on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at 6:30 p.m.
All members were present. Others present were: Brenda Rogers, Landon Daniel, Jennifer Rich and Travis Belt. Board President Scot Shively called the meeting to order.
Joshlin Yoder made a motion to approve the agenda. Brandy Uhlmeyer seconded the motion. Motion carried 7-0.
Band Report
Michelle Ratley and some band members were present to show the new band uniform and give details of the Liberty Bowl trip.
Keith Killen made a motion to approve the consent agenda. Shawn McEwen seconded the motion. Motion carried 7-0. Regular and executive minutes from December 20, 2022, and special minutes from January 4, 2023, were approved. Current month’s bills were approved, check numbers totaling. Current district enrollment was provided.
Superintendent’s Report
Tinna Croy talked about some wellness activities that some staff members are participating in. Thank you, cards were read. Library grant information was provided. Roger Barrick’s bus is having sensor issues. A legislative update was given to the board. There was some discussion on the old cafeteria tables.
Joshlin Yoder made a motion to approve a gym ceiling bid from Schwada Builders, Inc. for $132,820.00. Brandy Uhlmeyer seconded the motion. Motion carried 7-0.
Joshlin Yoder made a motion to approve a gym lighting bid from P & D Electric, Inc. for $6,250.00. Ryan Wiley seconded the motion. Motion carried 7-0.
Joshlin Yoder made a motion to donate the old cafeteria tables to various community entities. (Bethel Rec Center, Leonard Rec Center, Teen Center)
Ryan Wiley seconded the motion. Motion carried 7-0.
Joshlin Yoder made a motion to accept the bond wording from L J Hart. Keith Killen seconded the motion. Motion carried 7-0.
High School Principal Report
Landon Daniel provided the following information to the board.
Professional Development was held on January 2. Todd Whitaker, one of the Nation’s leading authorities on staff motivation, teacher leadership and principal effectiveness, was our guest speaker.
Third-quarter grade checks are February 3.
Elementary Principal Report
Jennifer Rich provided the following information to the board.
DARE began on Tuesday, Jan. 10 for fifth graders. Officer Mefford leads this training.
Our “Wee Deliver” mailing system has started. Thank you to Mr. Bichsel for your help setting this up. He made address books that include staff and student addresses in our building. I have purchased “mailboxes” that are hung outside of the classrooms for mail delivery, making sure the mail is addressed correctly, and canceling out the stamps on the mail. Students are enjoying sending letters to others.
Elementary scholar bowl teams have been busy practicing. They will go to Knox County and Scotland County tournaments in February. They have also been asked to have a team in the NS Jr. High Tournament to fill up a bracket. Some of the sixth graders will also fill in for the Jr. High team due to the lack of numbers.
Joslin Yoder made a motion to enter executive session for personnel purposes. Brandy Uhlmeyer seconded the motion. Motion carried 7-0.

Student issues were discussed.

LaNise Nastav denied the contract for the high school secretary position. She would like to stay in the elementary office.
Croy left the meeting while the board did her superintendent evaluation.
