The North Shelby Board of Education met on Wednesday, March 15, 2022. All board members were present except Keith Killen.
Also present were Jennifer Rich, Landon Daniel, Tinna Croy, Travis Belt, Paige Smith, Holly Klusmyer and Amber Prange.
TRACTION team members present were: Lisa Arment, Chloe Capps, Piper Harvey, Dani Reitz, and Adam Staples
Scot Shively called the meeting to order.
Shawn McEwen made a motion to approve the agenda. Ryan Wiley seconded the motion. Motion carried 6-0.
Shawn McEwen made a motion to approve the consent agenda. Ryan Wiley seconded the motion. Motion carried 6-0. Regular and executive minutes from February 16, 2023 were approved. Current month’s bills were approved. Current district enrollment was provided.
The TRACTION team presented data from parent/student surveys in support of a driver’s education program at North Shelby. Lisa Arment is going to gather some more information. No action was taken.
Program Evaluation
Holly Klusmeyer gave a SpEd presentation.
Some calendar dates were brought to the board’s attention.
Shawn McEwen made a motion to have the board meeting Monday, April 17 2023 to reorganize. The board will meet at 5:30 for a meal before the meeting. Ryan Wiley seconded the motion. Motion carried 6-0.
Superintendent’s Report
Tinna Croy gave the board a legislation update.
A school-wide tornado drill was conducted Tuesday, March 7.
A 50/50 grant written by Cristy Jones was approved by DESE for the FACS department.
After the release of the Annual Performance Report from DESE, North Shelby scored 91.2% placing us in the top 6% in the state of Missouri out of 553 schools.
Grades 3-12 will have an assembly on Monday, March 20.
Shawn McEwen made a motion to stay with Anthem Health Insurance Co. for employees for the 2023-2024 school year. Joshlin Yoder seconded the motion. Motion carried 6-0.
Brandy Uhlmeyer made a motion to purchase speaker cable conduit/gravel and speakers for the HS ball field. Ryan Wiley seconded the motion. Motion carried 6-0.
The no tax bond issue was discussed.
High School Principal’s Report
Landon Daniel provided the following information to the board:
There will be no school April 6 – 10 for Easter Break.
Congratulants to Emme Jones for being selected to attend Sophomore Pilgrimage on April 12.
Congratulations to Andi Belt for being named the Area 3 FFA 1st Vice President.
Elementary Principal’s Report
Jennifer Rich provided the following information to the board:
On February 21, teachers and aids attended a training for AR/STARR. A new reading assessment program to replace reading Counts and Reading Inventory. We have a trial until the end of the school year and will begin in full next school year.
Teachers and aids involved in teaching reading groups attended a presentation on SAVVAS My View reading curriculum. After the presentation, the teachers voted to replace PreK-5th grade with the SAVVAs curriculum for the upcoming school year. We have been researching and looking at programs for the last two school years.
