While Shelby County Deputy Caleb Barton was patrolling on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, he ended up finding property damage at 7198 Shelby 164, northeast of Bethel.
“This was not called in by the property owner, it was due to pro-active law enforcement and community,” said Shelby County Sheriff Arron Fredrickson.
Deputy Barton was patrolling on Shelby 164 when glancing over at a cabin and noticed something didn’t look right.
“It didn’t hit me at first, but then I decided to turn around and go check it out,” said Shelby County Deputy Caleb Barton.
When Barton pulled into the driveway, it was apparent the front door of the cabin had been broken in.
During further investigation, the front windows had been busted out. Barton walked into the cabin and noticed items had been broken while searching each room. Deputy Barton exited the cabin and did an aerial search.
“It didn’t appear that anything had been stolen,” said Deputy Barton.
At this point in time there are no leads.
“We are asking the people to be vigilante now that winter is over. We want people to know we are in the area patrolling. Please call us if you see anything,” said Sheriff Fredrickson.
