To be recognized for value in the workplace is important and beneficial to growth of the Missouri Department of Corrections.
Jennifer Rash, a correctional program specialist at Moberly Correctional Center, was recognized to hold such value, as she was named the May Employee of the Month for the Missouri Department of Corrections in a special ceremony at the State’s Central Headquarters in Jefferson City.
Rash was selected out of 11,000 DOC employees. Because of winning this award, Rash will be entered into nomination for State of Missouri Employee of the Year.
Rash was nominated by the MCC Warden, Myles Strid.
The actual nomination reflected her value and read as follows:
“Jenni Rash, a correctional programs specialist at Moberly Correctional Center, knows how to find great employees and keep them on the team. As a volunteer correctional recruiter, Rash has worked hard to make sure prospective team members know how valuable and rewarding a career in corrections can be.
“She has helped to rebrand MCC’s digital presence. She has managed a multi-platform recruitment campaign in social media. She has even partnered with local schools and other area organizations to buoy MCC’s reputation in the community.
“Rash also goes out of her way to make sure applicants and new hires feel welcome and well informed. During the pre-hire process, she reaches out to job candidates to let them know where to park and how to access the facility. Once they’re on board, she helps new staff secure resources they might need, such as transportation, clothing or child care. Her personal touch sets the standard for the team and helps foster a welcoming, inclusive culture.”
Her nomination was submitted to a panel of specialist, who then presented the nomination to the Director of Corrections, Anne L. Precythe. There are 20 correctional institutions in the State of Missouri and a workforce of 11,000 statewide.
Warden Strid went on to say, “I have been the Warden at Moberly Correctional Center for just over a year.” In my short tenure here, I have really grown to appreciate and value Mrs. Rash’s amazing work ethic and tenacity. She brought a unique skill set to the facility that has led us to being very efficient and competitive in our hiring of new staff. We are always looking for new talent, and Jenni has transformed our hiring process from being rigid and difficult to navigate, to being a customer service experience for job seekers. It is a high honor to be named employee of the month, as the Department has thousands of hard working team members! She earned it! We still have several good paying state jobs to fill, but I am confident Jenni will meet the challenge.”
In the 60 history of the Moberly Correctional Center institution, no other employee has received this honor and distinction.
Rash volunteers her time as a recruiter specialist, while remaining a Correctional Case Manager II.
She received a plaque, the Missouri Department of Corrections Director’s Coin of Excellence, eight hours of Administrative leave and she and her guests who attended, enjoyed a meal at Madison’s Café in Jefferson City.
Jennifer is married to Jeff Rash, and they have three children, Montana (Nikki) Schoonover, Madysin and Masen Rash and two grandchildren, Rawlins and Riggins Schoonover. Rash is a 1992 graduate of South Shelby High School and holds several college degrees, as well as being the Shelbina City Marshal for four years.
She currently lives in Shelbina.
