The South Shelby School Board met on Wednesday, July 12, in the Shelbina Elementary School Library.
New Business
Clawson reported that they received one bid on the high school restroom renovation project from Earl Construction for $177,983, which he said several other contractors told him was a strong competitive bid. Clawson added the restrooms are at a point where they need to be fixed.
Board Member Stewart Hatcher told his fellow board members the cost would more than likely be much higher next year if they waited a year. Hatcher views the restrooms as the public’s restrooms more than he does the students, and didn’t want to be the one who voted to spend so much on the football field, but not repair the bathrooms.
Clawson said he was not worried about the cost of the project from a budget perspective. Lead testing was brought up by Board Member Darin Eleazarrarez. After discussion, Clawson told the board he wasn’t too concerned about the lead testing. Some fixtures will still need to be replaced, which he’s hoping will allow for the testing to come back normal. Once the discussion concluded, the board approved to accept the bid from Earl Construction for $177,983.
The school board reviewed the elementary, middle school and high school student handbooks, the A+ handbook, staff handbooks, athletic/activities participation handbook, and bus driver handbook. Several changes were noted due to the four-day week schedule.
The school board approved the 2023-24 Tuition Rate and Fees, Hourly Rate and Wages for Special Jobs.
The school board approved a motion to have next school board meeting and 2023-24 Tax Rate Hearing for Wednesday, August 16.

High School Principal Tim Maddex said the online enrollment will go live on August 1. It will be a newer system than what has been used in the past. Parents will be getting a letter showing them how to set up their accounts with Infinte Campus. Maddex said there would be some hiccups in the beginning while they roll the program out.
