A Quincy man is being charged with stealing – motor vehicle, a class D felony, after allegedly stealing a vehicle from Four R-D, located in the 300 block of Fairgrounds Road in Shelbina on Tuesday, August 1, 2023.
The Shelbina Police Department was contacted by a business owner of Four R-D on Thursday, August 3, at 10:05 p.m. in reference to a vehicle theft.
Upon investigation officer(s) determined a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado had been stolen from the business in the early morning hours of August 1, by a lone unknown male, which was captured from video surveillance at the business.
Ricky J. Miller, 37, was identified as the person of interest and was found to be incarcerated in the Macon County Jail due to an unrelated incident.
The Quincy Illinois Police Department located the stolen vehicle at the residence of a relative of Miller. The vehicle was towed to a local impound lot awaiting pickup by the owner.
SPD Officer(s) interviewed Miller at the Macon County Jail concerning his involvement in the incident.
A Probable Cause Statement was submitted to Shelby County Prosecutor Jordan Force requesting charges of Class D Felony Stealing of a Motor Vehicle be formally filed against Miller.
Charges were filed against Miller in case No. 23SB-CR00141 by Prosecutor Force for one count of stealing – motor vehicle/watercraft/aircraft, a class D felony. A warrant was issued Friday, August 4 for the arrest of Miller with his bond set as $20,000 cash only.
Shelbina Police Chief Jeff Brown acknowledged the use of social media and citizen tips lead to the quick resolution of this investigation. Chief Brown encourages that anytime someone observes something suspicious or criminal activity to immediately contact their local law enforcement.
The above charges are mere accusation and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of these charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
