Raiders Easily Defeat Slater on the Road

The North Shelby Raiders traveled to Slater to take on the Wildcats on Friday, September 29, 2023. Even with a slow start, the Raiders would come out on top, 64-24.
The Slater Wildcats put the first points of the night on the board, with a quarterback keeper run. The Raiders defense tipped the pass on the two-point attempt, but was tipped right into the hands of a Wildcat receiver. The Wildcats quickly took the lead 8-0.
The Raiders quickly answered with points of their own, led by Jade Daniel. Daniel ran for 30 yards to get North Shelby its first points, followed by a short pass to Cole Browning for an extra two. The game was tied 8-8.
After several good defensive plays by the Raiders, the Wildcats found themselves in the endzone again. After a run play that broke loose, Slater added six more. With a diving catch on the two-point attempt, the Wildcats lead 16-8.
Gabe Orr and Browning moved the offense down the field and got the Raiders going on the next possession. Orr got the next points of the night with an incredible catch over a Wildcat defender. Unable to get the extra point, North Shelby trailed 16-14.
The Raiders defense came out on fire the next possession. Gannon Bowen broke up a pass, followed up by pass pressure by Oren Vanskike, and a tipped pass by Daniel.
Despite the good defensive efforts, the Wildcats found themselves with a first and goal. The defense stepped up and a play by Bowen on fourth down stopped the Wildcats and North Shelby took over on downs
Daniel started off the second quarter for the Raiders with a first down run. Runs by both Browning and Bowen moved the Raider offense closer to the goal line. Orr got his second touchdown of the night, this time with a run up the left side. Daniel dove in on the two-point attempt making the score 22-16.
The Slater offense took the field again, looking to add points of its own. After pass pressure by Greening and Vanskike the quarterback got loose, and ran it in for a Slater touchdown. The Wildcat running back plowed through the line for two more, taking the lead with a score of 24-22.
On the next possession, Daniel got his second touchdown of the night. With a fake handoff, he ran from the 30-yard line to take the lead for North Shelby. The Raiders held a 28-24 advantage.
A big defensive stop for the Raiders was in store for the next possession. The Raiders defense forced a fumble, once again, setting up the offense for more success.
The Raiders offense quickly moved into the Wildcat territory with a 35-yard completion from Daniel to Orr, who scored his third touchdown of the night, and added big two-point conversion pass to Oren Vanskike. The Raiders led 36-24 right before half.
NS came out on fire in the third quarter, and were looking to run away with the game. A fourth-down run by Daniel kept the offense alive, and a 26-yard run by Bowen resulted in a Raider touchdown. NS held a 42-24 advantage.
The defense was looking to keep the momentum up and an interception by Daniel did just that. After running the pick back for good yardage, the offense took the field. Another Raider touchdown and extra two points, this time both of these plays by Browning made the score 50-24.
North Shelby’s defense did not let up, and this time a big-time interception by Jay Miles gave the Raiders the ball back. The Raiders offense, however, was unable to capitalize on the defensive stop, and gave the Wildcats the ball back after an unsuccessful fourth down play.
As the Wildcats were slowly moving down the field, the North Shelby defense came up big again, this time the playmaker was Greening. Greening had a sack for a loss of yards, which would eventually get the Raiders the ball back.
North Shelby did capitalize on this defensive stop, and Browning got his second touchdown for the night. The extra points made the score 58-24. Not letting up, the Raider defense grinded out another huge defensive stop. This time the stop was made by TJ Belt, who made a big time sack, forced a fumble, and recovered the loose ball.
North Shelby rounded out a good night of football with a touchdown by Daniel, his third of the night.
