The South Shelby Lady Birds had one final tuneup before the District Tournament. South Shelby traveled to Higbee on Friday, February 16, 2024, and won 59-19 in a lopsided affair.
The Lady Birds jumped out to a 9-0 lead with Belle Roush scoring four points and Callie McWilliams scoring five points, including a three.
Higbee got on the board with a made free throw, but back-to-back threes by Kamryn Mitchell gave the Lady Birds a 15-1 lead with 4:31 left in the first quarter.
The Lady Birds led 20-9 after one quarter.
Kaelyn Maddex opened the second quarter with a three, followed by six straight points by Belle Roush. The 9-0 run to start the quarter gave South Shelby a 29-9 lead with 3:31 left in the first half.
The lead for South Shelby was 38-13 at the half.
The Lady Birds outscored Higbee 15-6 in the third quarter, led by Belle Roush’s seven points, to lead 53-19 after three quarters.
The final was 59-19.
Belle Roush led the Lady Birds with 21 points, six rebounds, and six steals. Mitchell finished with 12 points on four threes.
Charlie Roush led with eight rebounds, followed by Bella Cook and Hannah Gaines with six rebounds each. McWilliams finished with four steals.
The Lady Birds, 20-6 overall, received a first round bye in the Class 3, District 6 Tournament as the number two seed and will face the winner of the Highland/Clark County game on Wednesday, February 21, at 7:30 p.m. at Palmyra High School.
