The South Shelby Lady Birds played its final Clarence Cannon Conference game on the road at Highland on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, and won 40-32 against the Lady Cougars.
The Lady Birds opened the scoring with a three from Belle Roush to take an early 3-0 lead.
The two teams traded baskets for most of the first quarter, but a late three by Hannah Gaines gave South Shelby an 11-10 lead after the first quarter.
Both teams struggled to score in the second quarter as the Lady Birds held a slim 16-15 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, Callie McWilliams connected for a three and the defense by the Lady Birds allowed them to build a 28-19 lead after three quarters.
South Shelby held off the Lady Cougars in the fourth and won 40-32 to finish conference play with a record of 5-2.
Belle Roush led the Lady Birds with 13 points, 13 rebounds, and three blocked shots. Charlie Roush finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
