Michael Elsen

  Michael Richard Elsen, 84, of Shelbina, Mo., previously of St. Paul, Minn., passed away Monday, February 12, 2024, at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Mo.

  Michael was born on November 12, 1939, the son of Joseph Peter, Sr. and Isabel Ruth (Colbeth) Elsen. He was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Gwin on September 30, 1961 in St. Paul, Minn. She preceded him in death on July 23, 2012.

  He was also preceded in death by his parents.

  He is survived by two brothers, Joseph Elsen and wife Kaye of Shelbina, Mo. and Charles Elsen of St. Paul, Minn; two nephews, Tom Elsen and wife, Carrie of Shelbina, Mo. and Doug Elsen and wife, Colette of Shelbina, Mo.; and four great nephews and one great niece.

  Michael served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Bay of Pigs invasion. He worked in maintenance for the Department of Transportation in Minnesota for over 40 years. Michael enjoyed fishing, watching the Minnesota Vikings, and watching Cooper and Preston play South Shelby football and basketball.

  Graveside services were held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at 9 a.m. at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minn.
