Joyce Marie Halterman

Joyce Marie Halterman, 91, of Bethel, Mo., passed away on April 18, 2024, at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, Mo..

Joyce was born November 30, 1932, in Bethel, the daughter of Edwin Lynn and Ruby Mae (Bowers) Gibson. She was united in marriage to Allen Lee Halterman on July 3, 1959 at Ephrata, WA. He preceded her in death on October 8, 1985.

Joyce is survived by her four children, Kenneth Halterman (Virginia) of Kirksville, Mo.m Kevin Halterman (Dawn) of Hannibal, Edward Halterman (Connie) of Sedalia, Mo., and Tamara Greenwell (Stephen) of Shelbina, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Taylor McDowell (Nick), Travis Halterman (Samantha), Trent Halterman, Krystin Halterman (Terrelle), Rachel Pettitt (Collin), Michelle Westhues (Alex), Kimberly Greenwell; four great grandchildren, Kennedy, Audrey, Baylor, and one on the way; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Allen; and brother, Noble Dean Gibson.

Joyce was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church and grew up watching Bishop Sheen and Father Cedric on EWTN. She retired from Cerro after 13 years and was a member of the Delta Theta Tau- Omicron Pi Chapter in Bethel and was honored to be the first to have a three generation family member-ship. Joyce was a proud baker of her signature German chocolate cake and her chocolate sheet cake. She volunteered at the local food banks and Red Cross blood drives. Joyce loved helping others and caring for her family.

Later in life she became an avid traveler and achieved two goals on her bucket list – one to eat lobster in Maine and the other meeting Polka legends, Molly B. and Jimmy Sturr. Lastly, she loved caring for her pets, especially her pet goats and beloved dog, Cricket and cats, Jazzy, Joseph, and Fluffy.

Visitation was held on Sunday, April 21, 2024 from 2pm to 4pm at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, MO. Funeral services were held at 11am on Monday, April 22, 2024, at the funeral home in Shelbina, with Mike Alberts officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Hebron Cemetery immediately following the service.
