The North Shelby Raiders hosted the Canton Tigers on Friday, January 17, 2025, and lost 56-49.
North Shelby took the early lead with a three pointer by TJ Belt and took a 5-2 lead with a basket by Gannon Bowen.
Canton tied the game, but the Raiders regained the lead with a three by Belt. The Tigers scored to pull to within 8-7, but a two-point basket and three pointer, both by Bowen, gave the Raiders a 13-7 lead with 3:01 left in the first quarter.
Canton closed out the quarter on an 8-0 to lead 15-13 after the first quarter.
The scoring run for the Tigers continued in the second quarter as Canton’s 19-0 run pushed its lead to 26-13.
Belt scored to snap the streak, which was followed by a basket from Jade Daniel to cut the deficit to 26-17 with 2:40 left in the first half.
North Shelby trailed 30-21 at the half.
Bowen and Daniel scored all the points in the third quarter for North Shelby. Bowen scored eight points, while Daniel scored seven points, but Canton continued to answer every basket and held a 43-36 lead after three quarters.
Drake Prange and Daniel scored buckets to open the scoring in the fourth
quarter and pulled the Raiders to within 43-40 with 4:39 left.
Canton scored, but a three by Belt cut the deficit to 45-43 with 3:48, but it was the closest the Raiders would get as the Tigers would go on to win 56-49.
Bowen led the Raiders with 16 points, followed by Belt with 13 points, and Daniel with 11 points.
The Raiders, 2-7 overall, play in the North Shelby Tournament this week and the Meadville Tournament next week.
