The South Shelby Cardinals defeated Higbee 60-48 during senior night on Friday, February 21, 2025, at South Shelby High School.
With all seniors starting for the Cardinals, Noah Wilt opened the scoring with an early bucket.
After a basket by Higbee, Pryce Eagan’s three-point basket gave the Cardinals a 5-3 lead. Senior Draden Black scored to push the lead to 7-3 with 4:52 left in the first quarter.
Senior Titus Moore scored five straight points to give South Shelby a 12-6 lead.
Higbee closed the gap as the Cardinals led 14-12 after one quarter.
The Cardinals opened the second quarter on an 11-0 run, which was capped off by a three by Eagan to give South Shelby a 25-14 lead.
The Cardinals maintained a lead the rest of the half and led 33-22 at the break.
Both teams traded baskets in a low scoring third quarter. Preston Elsen scored five points in the quarter as the Cardinals led 41-32 at the end of three quarters.
South Shelby put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter, scoring the first nine points of the quarter.
The Cardinals hit 10 free throws in the final quarter to help secure the 60-48 win.
The Cardinals were led in scoring by Eagan with 14 points, followed by Wilt with 12 points.
The Cardinals improved to 15-10 overall.
