Students from Heartland Christian Academy recently traveled to the Kansas City area to participate in the annual Midwest Academic and Fine Arts competition, a much-anticipated event that challenges students to step outside their comfort zones, showcase their talents, and grow through valuable feedback and experience.
HCA staffer Cali Ballard reports, “This year’s competition was an incredible opportunity for our students to demonstrate their God-given gifts in music, visual arts, and science. Many of our participants earned high rankings, receiving 1s and 2s in various categories. A few students also submitted works in the Science Fair, presenting projects from mold growth and lung capacity to hydroelectricity.
“A special highlight from the event was the strong showing from our music department. Under the direction of Mrs. Eliza Bock, our middle school band earned a medal for their outstanding performance. In addition, multiple students received medals as overall winners in their individual music categories. The advanced school band, middle school percussion ensemble, and advanced band percussion ensemble all received 1s.
“We are so proud of all our students who took part in the competition. Their hard work, courage, and commitment to excellence were on full display, and we’re excited to see how they continue to grow in their unique talents and callings. A special congratulations to Leah Robbins on taking first place overall in the art category for her creation collage.”
HCA also hosted its “Taste of Heartland” event last Saturday night, which doubles as a school fundraiser and an opportunity for Heartland cooks, bakers, and makers to sell their wares. Homemade tacos and tamales, enchiladas, sushi, pizzas and loaded mac and cheese were big hits on the menu, along with all sorts of baked goods. The School thanks everyone who came out to support their seniors and sellers!
Last but not least, we’d like to welcome Lydia Jael Nickerson to the Heartland family! She was born April 11th at 11:27am, weighing 6lbs 10oz and 19.5″ long. Congratulations Peter and Sarah, and big sister Hadassah.
