Almanette Gibbs, 77, of Florissant, Mo., passed away Monday, March 17, 2025 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Charles, Mo.
Almanette was born on October 20, 1947 in Shelby County, Mo., the daughter of Donald and Mary Evelyn (Jones) Ragar. She was united in marriage to Donald Gibbs on September 17, 1967. He survives.
Almanette was a 1965 graduate of North Shelby High School. She attended the University of Missouri for linotype and printing in 1966, the International Correspondence School for condensed business practices in 1972, and graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Business Management from LaSalle Extension University in 1975. She had worked at Monroe County Appeal in Paris, Mo., as a linotype printer and operator and for Emerson Electric Company in St. Louis, Mo., for 19 years as a Senior Contract Administrator.
Almanette was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church near Shelbyville, Mo., the E&S Division Management Club where she served as the Membership Concerns Chairperson, and was a past Girl Scout leader in the city of Spanish Lake, Mo. She enjoyed reading, fishing, coin collecting, and watching St. Louis Cardinal Baseball.
She is survived by her husband, Donald of their home in Florissant; one brother, Darrell Ragar; one sister, Glenda Evans; two nephews and three nieces.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Kenneth Gibbs.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church near Shelbyville. A visitation will be held from 10 am to 11 am at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
