Nyda Jo Glover, age 94, of Shelbina, passed away on May 17, 2025 after suffering from Alzheimer’s for many years. Born September 12, 1930 in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Leo Perry and Effie McDuffee Perry. Nyda Jo had one sister, Betty Sue Mayfield, who passed away on March 7, 2025 at the age of 96. Nyda Jo was married to Charles Glover on November 1, 1947 and they enjoyed 67 years together until his passing on December 15, 2014.
Charles and Nyda Jo (also known as Dody to most folks) lived their entire lives in Shelby County. In their early years together, they lived on a farm West of Shelbyville where Dody was kept busy raising six children, working a garden and doing all the things a farm wife does. In 1965, they moved into town and spent the rest of their lives together living in the house Charlie and their sons built. In the late 1960’s, she went to work at North Shelby High School as their bookkeeper and worked there until her retirement in 1994. She was a friend and co-worker to many students, teachers, and administrators and is often remembered for her smiles and helpfulness. Dody was a very faithful Christian and was a member of Shelbyville Christian Church which she attended until her disease prevented her from going. She was a great mother and grandmother, a terrific cook and a wonderful person. Her kindness to the many students and friends she impacted over the years will always be remembered.
In addition to her husband, parents, and sister Dody was also preceded in death by her son, John Glover, her grandson, Charlie Glover, and a great-granddaughter. She is survived by her sons, Joe Glover and wife Patty of Shelbina, Jim Glover and wife Barbara of Wardsville, Jack Glover and wife Sherry of Shelbyville, Jeff Glover and wife Paula of Macon, and daughter, Joyce Glover Underwood and husband Tim of Centralia. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Mike Glover, Kevin Glover, Curt Glover, Matt Glover, Wes Glover, Max Glover, Ty Glover, Grant Glover, Lacey Glover, Cole Glover, Jake Glover, Jessa Glover, Jace Glover, Adam Underwood, Darin Underwood, Anthony Underwood, and 20 great-grandchildren, as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.
Dody was very blessed with her large family and many friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
