Heartland Christian College faculty and staff held a two-day retreat last week in preparation for the fall term. Having recently hired several new staff members, these times of team building exercises and taking a short trip together were an effective way to get to know one another more. The crew traveled to Springfield, Illinois, to take in the Abraham Lincoln Museum which documents the life of the 16th U.S. president and the course of the American Civil War, then had lunch at Chick-fil-A before traveling home.
The best aspect of the days, though, was the morning spent in worship and digging into the Word of God to share what was on each person’s heart for the coming year. From vision for growth over the next several years, to words like “renewed call to discipleship that comes from the heart, a forest fire of joy, God’s faithfulness in changing hearts, and the ‘aha’ moments that come in life and class as God reveals Himself to us so we can go out and share that with others”, it’s a blessing to be part of fulfilling the call to make disciples.
The Heartland Community sends congratulations to the Julian and Kelly Vera family, who consider themselves beyond blessed with the newest addition to their household. Baby brother Solomon Isaac arrived on Sunday, July 27th.
Ironically, Solomon was born as Pastor Kris was preaching Sunday’s message at Heartland Community Church on “The Value of Human Life.” The text was from Psalm 139:13-16. “Human beings are uniquely and divinely created by God in His image and every person is sacred,” said Pastor Kris. “Therefore, every person, from conception to natural death, possesses inherent dignity and immeasurable worth – including preborn children, elderly individuals, those with special needs and others marginalized by society. Christians, then, are called to defend, protect, and value all human life.” God created each of us for a purpose; have you found yours? Church is a good place to start; visitors are always welcome to attend Heartland Sunday services at 9am, held at 6434 Shelby Co. Rd. 150, Bethel.
