Cardinals Lose Conference Game at Clark County

The South Shelby Cardinals traveled to Clark County on Friday, September 19, 2025, to face the Indians and lost 14-8.
Clark County was the first team to get on the scoreboard in the first quarter with a touchdown at 6:54 left on the clock. The two-point conversion was good and Clark County led 8-0.
South Shelby was driving down the field late in the first quarter, but an interception in the endzone gave the ball back to Clark County.
Several plays into Clark County’s drive, the Cardinals recovered a fumble at the Clark County 14-yard line to retake possession.
Two running plays by Jace McWilliams got the Cardinals on the board. McWilliams ran for nine yards, which was followed a five-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion run by quarterback Chase Moellering was good and the score was tied at 8-8 with two seconds left in the first quarter.
Both teams traded possessions throughout the second quarter, but neither team could find the endzone and the score remained tied at the half.
The third quarter was much of the same as both teams struggled to get going on offense.
It wasn’t until late in the fourth quarter the Indians broke through with a touchdown pass completion to take a 14-8 lead with 5:32 left in the game. The two-point conversion failed.
The Cardinals had an opportunity late in the fourth quarter, but the drive fizzled out as South Shelby turned the ball over on downs and would go on to lose 14-8.
The Cardinals were led by Jace McWilliams with 88 yards on 13 carries and one touchdown.
Moellering completed 3-of-11 passes for 61 yards.
Hudson Gill had one reception for 30 yards. McWilliams and Noah Sanders each added a catch.
The Cardinals, 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the Clarence Cannon Conference, host Highland on Friday, September 26, 2025, for homecoming.
