Shelbina Man Saved from House Fire

A Shelbina man was taken to a hospital after being pulled from a house fire.
Shelbina Fire Protection District (SFPD) firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire with entrapment at 5:27 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025. The fire was located northeast of Shelbina on Shelby 470. The home was owned by Joe Schreck.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a house fully engulfed with fire.
According to the SFPD, a neighbor had pulled the sole occupant from the structure.
Assistant Fire Chief Allan Wilt confirmed the occupant was Joe Schreck. He was transported by Salt River Ambulance to the Shelbina helipad, then flown by MU 1 to a Columbia hospital for treatment.
The house was destroyed by fire and five acres of grass and brush also burned.
Wilt said the cause of the fire is undetermined.
Firefighters were on the scene until 10:00 p.m.
Agencies assisting at the scene were the Shelby Community Fire Department, Clarence Fire Department, Monroe City Fire Protection District, Salt River Ambulance District, MU 1 Helicopter, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Shelby County 911, Missouri Division of Fire Safety and Macon Electric Cooperative.
