Cards Struggle on Offense in Loss to Salisbury

The South Shelby Cardinals traveled to Salisbury on Friday, December 5, 2025, and lost 62-37 to the Panthers.
Two early free throws by Waylen Owens tied the score at 2-2 early. After a Salisbury bucket, a bucket by Cooper Seaton tied it again at 4-4 with 5:59 left in the first quarter.
Salisbury scored the next 10 points to grab a 14-4 lead. Two made free throws by Colt Schmitz with 50 seconds remaining made the score 14-6, which was the score after one quarter.
It was all Salisbury in the second quarter as the Panthers outscored the Cardinals 18-4 to grab a 32-10 halftime lead. Hudson Gill scored early in the quarter and Schmitz scored with less than a minute to go in the half.

South Shelby opened the third quarter with promise as Schmitz hit a three and a two point bucket to cut the lead to 32-15 with 7:11 on the clock.
Schmitz hit another three later in the quarter and the Cardinals trailed 37-18 with 6:05 left in the third quarter.
Seaton scored the next five points for the Cardinals and Schmitz scored late in the quarter, but the Cardinals trailed 50-25 at the end of three quarters.
South Shelby showed a little more life in the fourth quarter, scoring 12 points. Owens hit two threes in the quarter, but the Panthers closed out the 62-37 win.
Schmitz led the Cardinals with 16 points. Owens added eight points, while Seaton finished with seven points.
The Cardinals, 0-2 overall, are competing in the Monroe City Tournament this week.
