The South Shelby Lady Birds hosted Brookfield on Thursday, August 31, and lost 11-7 in the first Clarence Cannon Conference matchup of the season.
The Brookfield Lady Bulldogs built a 10-1 lead through the first five and a half innings, in what looked to be a laugher, but the Lady Birds mounted a comeback.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Lady Birds put together a rally. Sofia Eleazarraraz singled to drive in two runs, which was followed by a single from Kamryn Mitchell that led to two more runs. Two batters later, Madison Wilt doubled to drive in two more runs and the deficit was 10-7 for the Lady Birds.
Unfortunately, that was all the Lady Birds could score as Brookfield won the game 11-7.
Eleazarraraz led the offense with four hits, one run scored, two RBIs, and two stolen bases. Callie McWilliams and Wilt each added two hits. Mitchell and Wilt also added two RBIs each.
McWilliams pitched four innings, allowing eight runs, seven earned runs, on two hits. She walked eight and struck out three batters. Cassidy Curtis pitched three innings, allowing three runs, two earned runs, on four hits. She walked one and struck out one.
