The North Shelby Lady Raiders took a close 45-38 loss to Harrisburg in the Sophie Cunningham Classic on Saturday, January 6, 2023.
North Shelby was led by Hadlee Parsons with 13 points and Harper Copenhaver with eight points. Parsons was also named MVP of the game for the Lady Raiders.
The first quarter started off strong for the Lady Raiders with Ally Rich scoring a three. Marissa McEwen, Parsons, and Copenhaver all scored two to put North Shelby in the lead. Copenhaver also went 2-for-2 from the charity line. At the end of the first quarter, North Shelby was leading 11-7.
In the second quarter, Andi Belt made a jump shot for two and McEwen scored from the block. Harrisburg scored a couple threes in the second quarter and back-to-back layups to end the half and North Shelby was trailing 23-17.
In the third, Addy Uhlmeyer scored a jump shot off of an inbounds play, and Belt went 2-for-2 from the line. Parsons earned another four points and Copenhaver went 4-for-4 from the charity line. This would end the third quarter with North Shelby leading by four points. In the fourth period, Rich got fouled on the three-point line and went 3-for-3 from the charity line. Hadlee Parsons went 3-for-4 on her free throws.
Harrisburg managed to score a few layups and another three to end the game and win 45-38.
North Shelby hosted Schuyler County on Tuesday and are scheduled to travel to Canton on Friday, January 9. They compete in the North Shelby Tournament next week. See the bracket for details.
